News Sources: Importance of Variety
While everyone enjoys reading perspectives which reaffirm their own ideas or values, it is important to refer to a variety of news sources to gain a deeper understanding of current events. I hope to share insight into five reputable news media sources which often have clashing views ranging from politics, to social issues, to education systems, or environmental concerns.

With Politico's primary focus on releasing information to the public via internet, this source provides an abundance of information that is easily accessible. Another facet of Politico is its convenience for readers who use their smart devices on a regular basis but do not want to listen to a radio station or television program. Politico is a great alternative news media source for those seeking up-to-date information without having to navigate through articles upon articles of current events.

A second news media source which is commonly viewed via television or online, is Cable News Network, or more commonly known as CNN. When gathering knowledge of news and educating yourself on the important events happening around the world, looking at a widely viewed news media source can give you a better understanding of what information the world at large is also intaking. By doing so, you are able to connect and converse with more friends, co-workers, or peers to form more knowledgable opinions. CNN does a great job with staying up-to-date on their news stories, which update frequently throughout the day so you can stay in the loop about current events.

Fox News is another excellent news media source when it comes to obtaining easily accessible and up-to-date news. This platform can give readers a different approach to reaching the public that does not use broadcasting on television. In addition to being easily available via a phone or laptop, The Times is a reliable source to find information to compare with other sources and has been running since 1851.

In order to digest a truly diverse amount of information, sometimes going beyond works published here in the United States is helpful. To grasp other events going on across the entire globe, The Economist, is a highly recognized British paper. Though it may seem drastic to use news media sources from other countries, it will only be beneficial when it comes to broadening your knowledge of other cultures around the world as well as how those cultures view our own. Doing so will not only grow your ability to make connections with people from different backgrounds, but will assist you in developing new ideas or beliefs to carry with you throughout all experiences in life.
